English for Academic Purposes

Objectives

This course aims to help SoC students improve their English language proficiency in the areas of academic reading, writing and speaking.

Format

The course emphasizes language proficiency in the areas of reading, writing and speaking. It comprises grammar review, text editing, paragraph writing, essay writing and mini-presentations.

The course is conducted over 12 weeks with two 2-hour tutorial sessions each week. During tutorials, course materials are presented to the students, who then work either individually or in small groups on various tasks and assignments related to the materials.

Assessment

Evaluation consists of continual assessment of the students' assignments and a final written examination.
