Voices from the classroom

In August 2009 the Centre for English Language Communication (CELC) at NUS launched its teaching-focused online journal, English Language Teaching World Online (ELTWO), as a complement to the research-based Reflections on English Language Teaching.

ELTWO will provide an opportunity for English Language Teaching (ELT) and communications skills practitioners to share innovative teaching ideas that maximize the potential of print, audio-visual, and web resources, and to present their views on teaching resources, materials development, syllabus and curriculum design, assessment and related topics. Because the journal has been created on an interactive blog platform, it will also allow readers to comment on any article.

In line with its goals, ELTWO includes four main content sections

Features, with articles of up to 3000 words that address practical ELT concerns and link sound principles with good practice;
  Activities that Work, with articles of approximately 2000 words that describe effective and innovative classroom activities within a specific teaching or learning context;
  Media Reviews, with articles of 1000 words or less that critically assess teaching resources; and
  Language Court, an arena where experts in linguistics, language pedagogy and communication provide informed opinions on questions fundamental to ELT.

Complementing these sections is a discussion forum, which gives readers an additional means of sharing opinions on topics of interest.

The targeted readership of ELTWO includes English/ ESL/EFL/communication skills teachers and programme administrators, applied linguists, teacher educators, students of language acquisition and anyone else with an academic or professional interest in current practical issues in English language teaching and learning.

ELTWO will be regularly updated and will operate on the basis of one volume per year. Material from previous volumes/years will be accessible to readers in an archive.

Along with its editorial board of six CELC faculty members, ELTWO has an international cast of twenty contributing editors and twenty-six reviewers. ELTWO (eltwo@nus.edu.sg) now welcomes the submission of original manuscripts for peer review.  For submission guidelines, please follow this link. We look forward to meeting you via eltworldonline.com.
