SP 2171 - Discovering Science


Module Description

This is a compulsory, embedded Communication Skills course for approximately 50, 1st Year students, enrolled in the Special Programme in Science (SPS) at the Faculty of Science. The course will include two main aspects of communication for scientists, namely:

1. Writing Scientific Documents (including proposals and review papers) and
2. Oral Presentation Skills for field-specific audiences (Science).

The course is thus a specialized one for Science Faculty students being groomed to be researchers and academics in the field. SP 2171 is scheduled to run over two semesters in the academic year of 2011/12, beginning in August 2011. There will be 7 lectures in all spread over 2 semesters, 3 in Semester 1 and 4 in Semester 2. Other points of contact with students will be through conferencing of written papers and feedback sessions on presentations.
