The Centre for English Language Communication (CELC) was established in 1979. It plays a vital role in enhancing the English language and communication skills of both local and international undergraduate and graduate students at the National University of Singapore.
We aspire to be a leading international centre for the teaching of English language and communication skills and the engagement in research that facilitates scholarly teaching.
Our mission is to empower our students to acquire effective English language and communication skills for their academic and professional lives through innovative teaching, promotion of independent learning and engagement in research related to ELT.

To meet CELC’s teaching and research goals, the following audio-visual, computer and library facilities are available for its staff and students to use.

The student computer laboratory has 31 workstations, a DLP overhead projector and an HP LaserJet 4 printer. In addition to using the software library and word-processing programmes, the students are also able to access the University's extensive central computing facilities like NUSNET which has gateways to the Internet and Telnet.

The Centre has 10 tutorial rooms and 6 seminar rooms equipped with facilities to teach a variety of lessons and communication skills. The rooms are used to record and review group and individual oral presentations, role play and organisational behaviour. They are also used for viewing commercially produced audio-visual materials.
Each of the rooms is equipped with an overhead projector and wall-mounted screens. A DLP overhead projector and a desktop computer are also available for students who wish to supplement their presentations with computer-generated visuals.
Wireless broadband Internet access is available throughout the Centre. This enables students at the Centre to engage in independent learning using online resources as well as work on their research projects and presentations.
