Development Manager (Technology Commercialization) Enterprise Development Lab, Institute for Engineering Leadership

Enterprise Development Lab, a division within a newly organized Institute for Engineering Leadership at NUS Faculty of Engineering, is looking for a leader with unique combination of skills to identify and cultivate technologies with strong commercialization potential and launch scalable companies based on these selected technologies. The objective is to seed the development of new enterprises and/or new revenue streams hence ensuring maximum value-creation from NUS research.

Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Development Lab, the selected candidate will:

  • Source and identify promising NUS technologies and expertise base
  • Engage & cultivate identified expertise with a view of commercialization of their technologies, and/or maximising value from their expertise
  • Develop networks and connections within NUS and outside to enable value creation from NUS technologies and expertise
  • Seed start-up teams, validate market potential and launch new enterprises
  • Build a sustainable Technology to Market process that continuously validates commercial potential of NUS research and launches new enterprises
     

Requirements:

  • A graduate technical degree is required, PhD level is preferred
  • At least five years of industrial experience
  • Start-up experience or knowledge of commercialization process
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and inspire people is a must in this role

Senior Manager Bachelor of Technology (BTech) Programme

You will manage the BTech Office.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Assist the Director in producing various reports needed by Faculty Board, Board of Undergraduate Studies, UCEP and the Senate
  • Manage and supervise the daily operations of the office in matters of Admissions, Accreditation, Finance & Human Resources. You are expected to gain an understanding of the workings of these functions in the office and to provide guidance in its daily operations
  • Refine, design and implement new work processes, streamlining of work responsibilities, ensuring the seamless "flow through" of work processes and writing of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the office
  • Admissions - You will be overall responsible for the marketing effort ranging from marketing collaterals, information sessions, advertisements, outreach programmes, working with partners & stakeholders till the start of the class
  • Accreditation - Supervise work on the various timeframes for submission for the various programme ensuring the timely compilation of documents and information and identify areas of improvement that will have an impact of the programme standing
  • Finance - Supervise its operations ranging from the procurement process of all equipment & supplies, timely payment of tuition fees by students, payment to vendors and teaching staff, appointment of vendors, following proper tender process, ensuring that proper financial matrix and corporate governance are being practiced, etc
  • Human Resources - Promote HR best common practices and ensure that the labor laws are being adhered to. You will also supervise staff by assigning and monitoring clerical and administrative responsibilities and tasks among staff
  • Oversee the development of organizational business continuity plans.
  • Other adhoc duties that may occasionally arise

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree. An MBA from a reputable institution is preferred
  • At least 7 years of working experiences in an education setup
  • Work experiences in both private and public educational setup is a plus
  • Candidates must have past hands-on experiences in the overall management of a setup with at least 10 staff and knowledge of government financial / procurement / tender process

Assistant Manager / Senior Executive / Executive Engineering Science Programme

You will provide administrative support to the Director of the Engineering Science Programme.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Assist the Director in managing the Engineering Science Programme and coordinating general administrative matters

Executive Department of Mechanical Engineering

You will assist the Deputy Head (Academic) to manage the academic matters of the students in the department.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Curriculum and course registration advisory
  • Special programmes (e.g. internships, overseas exchange); major/minor and double degree programmes

Requirements:

  • Recognised University degree with at least 2 years' working experience, preferably in the education sector
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience working with students

Laboratory Executive Department of Bioengineering

You will manage and maintain the labs at the Bioengineering Corridor.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Operation and maintenance of lab equipment
  • Assist staff and students in experiments and research
  • Provide training for students in the use of lab equipment
  • Plan and schedule students' project examination and presentations
  • Set up biosafety procedures/rules and ensure that they are observed and practiced
  • Develop and update of emergency response plan and risk assessments

Laboratory Executive Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering

You will be responsible for design, planning, modification, operations and maintenance of facilities in the cleanroom and provide necessary support in training students and post-doc in process and device fabrication.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Assist to develop criteria and performance specifications of NTF infrastructure, services and equipment
  • Assist to set up and drive compliance to the safety regulations and requirements of NTF
  • In-charge of an emergency response-team
  • Coordinate and liaise with the ECE department on all aspects of safety and risk assessment related to NTF
  • Take charge of providing safety-training to personnel who require to use the NTF
  • Assist in the project management and operation of advanced technology facilities
  • Assist in the novel fabrication of device structure in projects that utilize techniques such as e-beam lithography, photolithography, focused ion beam milling, ICP/RIE etching, PECVD, e-beam evaporator and wet etching in the NTF and also characterization such as surface profiler, scanning electron microscope, and scanning probe microscope
  • Assist in the synthesis of materials and thin films using sputtering technique
  • Assist in providing training to students and post-doc in process and device fabrication
  • Assist in other areas of work (if applicable) as and when the need arises

Requirements:

  • Diploma/Degree in Engineering or higher, preferably with a professional qualification in facility management
  • At least a few years of facilities experience in a cleanroom environment
  • Knowledge of cleanroom operations, including facility design criteria, HVAC control systems, and cleanroom protocol
  • Hands-on project management experience in operation of advanced technology facilities
  • Ability to develop criteria and performance specifications for facility equipment and services
  • Know-how and experience in setting up and driving compliance to environmental, health, and safety regulations, and also corporate security requirements
  • Know-how in dealing with high purity gas delivery, HVAC and medium voltage power distribution systems
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
