Close to a thousand students attended the inaugural Supernova Rock Concert, held on 2 September 2011 at the University Town. The event, organised by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), aims to welcome all students, be it the freshmen, exchange students, or students back after the vacation. The concert featured a stellar line-up of bands and music groups from NUS, such as Resonance from the Cultural Activities Club (CAC), The Rojaks from Guitar Club, Original Music Society (OMS), Smoking Marshalls, Imprompt-3, KR Rockers and TigerLillies.

The night kicked off with a pre-show performance by Resonance, an acapella group from CAC that warmed the crowd up, covering songs such as Bring Me to Life and It’s My Life, which set the mood for the rest of the night. Students started streaming in and claiming a spot on the lawn of Town Green.

The main segment started with The Rojaks adding a dose of alternative music to the night. Opening with Naïve by The Kooks, the band played eagerly to the progressive crowd.

It was the Smoking Marshalls of King Edward VII Hall who brought the crowd to their feet that night. Together with an extremely charismatic frontman, the band wowed the crowd with Don’t Stop Believin’. Following up with a medley of mainstream pop songs such as I’m Yours and Price Tag, the band was a great crowd-pleaser, even bringing up a guest vocalist and guitarist to lead the medley. This was followed by Imprompt-3 who performed an acoustic set.

KR Rockers came on next with a spike in the energy of the crowd, much to the enthusiasm of the crowd which had grew to approximately 1,00 audiences

The TigerLillies, formerly of Kent Ridge Hall, ended the night on a high note with a set of widely popular songs. The atmosphere became even more pumped as the band launched into the final song which climaxed with pyrotechnics as it certifies the success of the event. The event continued on strong with DJs from NUS SynQ spinning as part of the after-party.

It was indeed a night to remember for the inaugural outdoor rock concert at Town Green.
