The inaugural Asian Law Deans Forum on Legal Education, jointly hosted by the Faculty of Law and Temasek Foundation with the support of the Asian Law Institute, marked the first high-level meeting on legal education and cross-institution collaboration. It drew over 45 leaders of law schools from 30 institutions from the East Asian non-OECD countries, including China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines and Thailand. |

The Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy celebrated its 5th anniversary with a gala dinner and a dialogue session with Guest-of-Honour Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. It also marked the occasion with the announcement of the appointment of former United Nations Secretary-General and Nobel Laureate Kofi Annan as the first Li Ka Shing Professor, as well as the launch of its first Chinese language programme, the Master in Public Administration and Management in collaboration with NUS Business School. |

Two 150 year-old townhouses in Malacca, which will be used by the Department of Architecture as a field school and resource centre, were officially opened by the Governor of Malacca, TYT Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka, His Excellency Tun Datuk Seri Utama Mohd Khalil bin Yaakob. Ms Agnes Tan, daughter of the late Tun Tan Cheng Lock, a highly-respected Peranakan community leader, had bequeathed the townhouses to the department. The townhouses were restored over two years by NUS faculty and students together with a Malacca-based conservation architect. |

The Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore (Duke-NUS) was officially opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Duke-NUS’ inaugural class, which commenced in 2007, will be graduating in 2011 with a joint M.D. degree from NUS and Duke University – the first such degree in the history of both universities. |

Dr Lee Seng Tee was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters by NUS Chancellor President S R Nathan at a special ceremony at the Istana. A well-known businessman, philanthropist and patron of education and the arts, Dr Lee was recognised for his invaluable contributions in promoting education. |

HRH Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, KG graced the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) 50th Anniversary reception at the University to celebrate CSFP’s long-standing tradition of recognising and promoting the highest level of intellectual development. NUS will offer two graduate scholarships under CSFP, the first institution in Singapore to do so, to encourage talent development and research collaborations between Singapore and the Commonwealth countries. |
