International Awards and Accolades
NUS faculty members who helped raise the global profile of the University with
the international recognition they received in the year included the following:
Professor CHEN, LOUIS (Faculty of Science)
was appointed president of the Institute of
Mathematical Statistics, US.
Professor HALLIWELL, BARRY (NUS Graduate
School & Faculty of Medicine) was elected
member of the World Health Organisation
Expert Panel to recommend levels of intake for
nutrients and related substances.
Associate Professor KENG SIONG BENG (Faculty of Dentistry) was elected president
of the Southeast Asia Association for Dental
Education.
Associate Professor LEE CHEUK YIN (Faculty
of Arts & Social Sciences) was appointed
member of the International Confucian
Association Board.
A team comprising Professor LEE TONG
HENG, Associate Professor TAN KOK KIONG,
TAN CHEE SIONG (Faculty of Engineering) and
PhD engineering student TANG KOK ZUEA won the best paper prize at the ASEAN Virtual
Instrumentation Applications Contest 2004 for
an automated cell electro-activation system.
Professor MOORE, PHILIP KEITH (Faculty of
Medicine) was the first NUS staff member to be
made a fellow of the British Pharmacological
Society.
Dr SALTO-TELLEZ, MANUEL (Faculty of
Medicine) received the 2004 World Scientific
Forum International Award from the
International Research Promotion Council, India,
for contributions to the field of onco-cytology.
Associate Professor SAVAGE, VICTOR (Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences) was re-elected
president of the Commonwealth Geographical
Bureau, UK.
Associate Professor TAN, WILLIE (School of
Design & Environment) was elected the first
rotational chairman of the International Project
Management Education Union.
Professor TAN CHENG HAN (Faculty of Law)
was appointed a Young Global Leader by the
World Economic Forum.
Associate Professor TAN NGOH TIONG (Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences) was
elected co-chairman of the Commonwealth
Organisation for Social Work, UK.
Assistant Professor VADAKEPPAT,
PRAHLAD (Faculty of Engineering) led a
team from NUS to win the second place in
the Humanoid category at the Robot World
Cup in South Korea, which was organised by
the Federation of International Robot-soccer
Association (FIRA).
