Discovery

ALSET strives to be a leading hub for learning science and education technology researchers in Asia. Our ultimate focus is on students and adult learners. Our goal is to help them learn better.

Discovery Research Unit

The Discovery Research Unit has over 40 researchers from a wide array of fields—including the social, biological, physical, and computational sciences—making it one of the most interdisciplinary institutes of its kind. Our focus is “in vivo” research, i.e. how learning happens in the classroom and day-to-day life, not in lab-based experiments.

ALSET's Research Theme Leads

ALSET research is organised around four main themes, each headed by an accomplished Research Theme Leader who serves as a champion for learning science an education technology within their discipline. The four research themes and their respective leads are as follows:

More information on our research theme leads can be found in our Researcher Directory.

ALSET’s Four Levels of Faculty Appointment

The ALSET research community is organised according to four levels of faculty appointment. Each level has different responsibilities and receives different benefits from the institute.

Effective Learning Research Study

We invite you to join us in exploring the power of effective learning further, expanding the research to cover a more diverse set of cultural contexts and academic environments. The additional workload is minimal for the course instructor and student participants: your students will be asked to take a few short surveys (~15 mins each) before each of their course exams. All surveys will be created and distributed by the research study team. All student information and survey responses will be kept strictly confidential.
