Reimbursement and Payment of the Scholarship

 Any reimbursement of the Scholarship can only be made after the Scholar has registered at NUS for his/her designated graduate degree programme. Each Scholar is responsible for his/her own living and personal expenses.


Opening a Bank Account in Singapore

The Scholar is required to open a bank account in Singapore prior to submitting claims for reimbursement. The following items will be automatically credited to the Scholar’s bank account once he/she has completed the registration formalities at NUS:

  1. A monthly stipend of S$1,350;
  2. A one-time book allowance of S$500; and
  3. Tuition and Miscellaneous Student Fees at NUS, throughout the period of the award.

Making Claims for Reimbursement

  1. Initial Award of the Scholarship
    1. The Scholar must make initial payment for the following items to be claimed and retain all original receipts:
      • Student’s Pass Fees imposed by Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA);
      • Medical examination fees for Student’s Pass application (capped at S$60); and
      • Cost of air travel for one-way ticket of up to S$500 on economy class and up to 20kg baggage per trip from home country to Singapore.
    2. All claims for amounts in foreign currency must be converted to Singapore Dollars under the prevailing exchange rate using the XE currency converter
    3. Complete the Claim Form for NUS Graduate Scholarship for ASEAN Nationals and attach all original receipts before submitting them to the Registrar’s Office, any time after registration.
    4. All claims must be made within one month from the date of the receipt. Airfare claims must be made within one month from the date of travel.

  2. Upon Completion and Award of Degree
    1. The Scholar must make initial payment for the following item to be claimed and retain all original receipts:
      • Cost of air travel for one-way ticket of up to S$500 on economy class and up to 20kg baggage per trip from Singapore back to home country.
    2. Complete the Claim Form for NUS Graduate Scholarship for ASEAN Nationals and attach all original receipts before submitting them to the Registrar’s Office, along with a copy of the final examination results.
    3. All claims must be made within one month from the date of the receipt and no later than one month after the Commencement ceremonies.
