Developments

Professor Shih Choon Fong succeeded Professor Lim Pin as NUS' new Vice-Chancellor.

Jointly conducted courses under the Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA) were stepped up with the introduction of a third postgraduate programme which will commence in the next academic year. Called Innovation in Manufacturing Systems and Technology, the programme is the Alliance’s first in manufacturing and will include teaching input from professionals in the manufacturing industry on technopreneurship skills.

NUS signed an MOU with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to conduct a Graduate Diploma in Defence Technology and Systems Course for SAF officers. The course will impart a broad-based understanding of technologies employed in defence and the application of a systems-engineering approach towards solving operational military problems. The course will be taught with input from the Naval Postgraduate School, USA.

The Faculties of Architecture, Building & Real Estate, Business Administration, Engineering, Medicine, School of Computing and NUS-affiliated university-level research institutes – Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, Centre for Wireless Communications, Kent Ridge Digital Labs and Chemical and Processing Engineering Centre – initiated several joint projects with industry, public sector organisations and overseas institutions such as PWD Corporation, the National Archives, McGraw-Hill Book Company, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing and Singapore Technologies.
