Dr Sydney Brenner, an eminent and distinguished geneticist from Cambridge, was appointed as the first Lee Kuan Yew Distinguished Visitor. The LKY Distinguished Visitors' Programme was established with the objective of inviting internationally eminent academics and scholars to Singapore to make high-level contributions to the university.
