Developments

President Devan Nair became the Chancellor after the demise of President Sheares on 12 May.

Professor Lim Pin succeeded Dr Tony Tan as Vice-Chancellor on 1 June.

The Institute of Systems Science was established under a partnership programme between the National University of Singapore and IBM. This signified the strengthening of University-industry collaboration and the beginning of a policy of establishing centres of excellence in selected areas.
