"Where The Best Gets Better"

Business Administration

"I have gained extensive industrial and professional experience through my internship at Goldman Sachs. Other links are forged during corporate presentations and ad-hoc activities like company-sponsored training sessions, talks and competitions."

Lau Yi Chuen,
Honours year, Business Administration

The Talent Development Programme nurtures future business leaders. The TDP is guided by the academic aim of deepening students' understanding and broadening their appreciation of the world of business. Complementing these academic aims are the leadership-related aims of building students' confidence and communication and social skills.

The activities in the TDP fulfill the academic and leadership aims simultaneously. Students have access to a range of international and local opportunities. TDP students may participate in two semesters of overseas exchange. The Faculty has exchange agreements with 40 of the top business programmes worldwide. Besides the exchange programme, other international opportunities include International Business Case Competitions, Business Orientation Programs and International Study Visits to Silicon Valley and Stanford University. TDP students from the Faculty have won the Marshall Case Competition in USA.

TDP students also enjoy an exciting and flexible Business Curriculum. Special TDP courses emphasize individualized attention and allow students to work closely with professors. In an overseas independent study project, students conduct a case study of a particular industry or company while on overseas exchange.

Students can also broaden their understanding of business by reading an integrative course on current issues in Business. The course is taught by a team of professors, who analyze current business issues from the perspectives of multiple disciplines. TDP students can explore the roots of business disciplines in the course, "Classics in Management" by reading original texts that have influenced Business thinking and exchanging their thoughts with a professor.

TDP students are always busy. They are kept occupied by local happenings such as business conferences, seminars and talks. They participate in local internships and attachments with companies such as Goldman-Sachs and Shell. They also engage in a gamut of student activities. Some have leadership roles in the BIZAD Club and university hostels. If all this sounds a little demanding, TDP students can take comfort in the fact that they each have a faculty mentor to guide them.

Besides the intrinsic enjoyment offered by the TDP, TDP students in Business Administration also reap extrinsic rewards. Potential employers who know about the programme often approach FBA to recruit TDP students for positions in their companies. Our TDP graduates work in a range of organisations: The Boston Consulting Group, Shell, The Sumitomo Bank and Tuas Power.
