Mrs. Bridget Lew is a graduate of NUS whose life is evidence of her commitment to help her fellow men - to welcome the stranger and set the downtrodden free. After a successful career as a Human Resource Manager / Entrepreneur, she channelled her energy, dedication and talents into the humanitarian needs of foreign workers in Singapore. She founded the Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics (H.O.M.E.) and is the President of Foreign Domestic Workers Association for Skills Training (FAST). She has been instrumental in ensuring that they have access to physical shelter, financial and legal assistance and educational skills to prevent victimisation and exploitation. Her fundraising efforts are monumental- in the wake of the SE Asian Tsunami disaster she spearheaded the raising of over S$100 000 for victims. In recognition of her outstanding humanitarian work, in 2003, she received from President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo the Banaag Award for her service to overseas Filipinos in Singapore. In 2005, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for the 1000 Peace Women project.

Today, she continues to campaign for social justice to achieve her aim of building a culture of welcome’ in Singapore where ‘No Man, Woman or Child is a Stranger – We are Family.’
