Qualifying English Test (QET), Academic Year 2009/2010
The QET will be held on Thu 19 November 2009 from 0900 to 1115. Students who do not meet the exemption criteria and have not yet sat for the QET are required to do so. Please check the QET website for the full information.

Scaling New Heights in a Changed World

Our world is changing rapidly and profoundly. As our Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong noted in his speech to Parliament on 29 May, "After this crisis, the world is not going to be the same again. It's not just another cyclical downturn and recovery. The world's economy is undergoing a structural shift."

	Tan Ean Kiam Arts Awards promotes arts excellence on campus The inaugural Tan Ean Kiam Arts Awards was launched on 31 October 2009 at the University Cultural Centre Theatre, to honour the best of NUS Centre For the Arts (CFA)'s 23 arts groups, comprising students and alumni, who have excelled artistically and contributed significantly to CFA, NUS and the community.
	NUS clinician scientists obtain prestigious Singapore Translational Research Investigator Awards Prof H. Phillip Koeffler of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Prof David Bruce Matchar, Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School (Duke-NUS GMS) were among the three clinician scientists to have received the prestigious Singapore Translational Research (STaR) Investigator Awards.
	Honoured at the Student Achievement Awards 2009 NUS recognised individual students and student groups at its annual Student Achievement Awards 2009. These students are given recognition for their outstanding achievements inactivities outside the academic curriculum and for bringing honour to the University.
	Centre for International Law to promote international law research and education in the region International law cannot call itself “international” without the voice of Asia. Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Prof S Jayakumar told the audience at the launch of the Centre for International Law (CIL) on 31 October 2009.
	State of the University Address 2009: Scaling new heights in a changed world Our world is fast changing and NUS needs to make full use of the window of opportunities to impel the university forward and scale new heights in a changed world. To achieve this, NUS President Tan Chorh Chuan said the University will need to continue to aggressively build upon talent, a transformative education and world-class research, as well as intensify the efforts in making NUS a significant player in the rapid rise of Asia.
	GUSTO study to shed light on early developmental factors of metabolic diseases The team led by Assoc Prof Chong Yap Seng of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YLLSoM) has come up with the Growing Up in Singapore Towards healthy Outcomes (GUSTO) Study.
	NUS undergraduate shines at inaugural tri-university Business Schools debate at Discover Europe Fair 2009 Mr Marcus Lim Tao Shien, a third-year NUS student reading a double degree in law and business, won the Best Speaker award at the inaugural tri-university business schools debate at the Discover Europe Fair 2009.
	University Town bags new BCA Green Mark award for integrated environmental friendly development In line with NUS' commitment to build a more sustainable campus environment, the NUS University Town is being built on a site with lush tropical landscape and rolling terrain, adopting sustainable design principles. For this, the project was awarded the second highest rating of GoldPlus in the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark awards.
	His Excellency Dr Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart visits Chief Scientific Adviser of the State Council of Cuba His Excellency Dr Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart called on NUS to gain insights into the University's research strategies and development.
	Distinguished alumni honoured at Faculty of Science's 80th anniversary celebration At the 80th anniversary dinner of the Faculty of Science (FoS) on 24 October 2009, 17 distinguished alumni were honoured for their careers and contributions to society and for bringing prestige and pride to NUS.
	MINDEF partners NUS for Temasek Research Fellowship scheme The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NUS and Nanyang Technological University on 22 October 2009 for the establishment of the Temasek Research Fellowship, a three-year post-doctoral research fellowship for outstanding researchers to conduct defence technology research at NUS.
